Success Story: Adam Hickey
Each successful designers have followed a variety of paths to achieve their goals. If you want to pursue your profession as a designer, you can draw inspiration from the life of the following designer.
Adam Hickey, a self-taught artist.
I’m a self-taught artist. My art teacher from when I was in school told me I didn’t have a creative or artistic bone in my body and I dramatically failed my art exam. I’m guessing because I could not at the time draw landscape pictures or portraits. My art skills mainly laid in comic book style art. Skip forward a few years. Got married, had a few children, during that time I developed a love for tattoos! I even found an apprenticeship in a local studio to get me on my way. Sadly it all came to a halt due to family circumstances and managing an additional full-time job within the retail sector.
So with tattooing out of the window for the unforeseeable future, I decided to continue working on my artwork at home, learning new styles and techniques along with the knowledge I gained from working in a tattoo studio. Then I had the idea of customizing my ps4 controller facia, and from that idea, it leads me into more designs and built up a pretty good but small customer base. It gave me confidence as an artist that I so desperately needed to continue working on my artwork and customizations. I rely on social networking for work as well as word of mouth recommendations.
How did you develop a fondness for artwork?
I have always had a love for art from as far back as I can remember, I always use art and craft to help me either keep occupied, release my creativity, or to manage my depression.
