Cassandra Kassel Success Story

Cassandra Kassel is a self-taught artist.

Tell me about yourself?
I am a self-taught artist that loves colour and creating unique artworks with acrylic paint, digital and ink.

At what age did you start doing work and developed a love for artwork?
I have loved drawing since I was five years old. I would try to imitate every comic book I could get my little hands on. Primarily Batman, Spiderman and an occasional Spawn. Spray painting in high school was my first introduction to painting and I fell in love with paint.

How did you develop a fondness for artwork?
My grandmother would take me to the art gallery in downtown San Jose and bought me my first sketchbook to mirror her sketchbook. My grandmother encouraged my parents to buy me comic books for practice.

Why did you choose art as a profession?
The choice to do art was not easy because of the criticism or doubt that is inevitable but it boiled down to it being what I love doing.

Who are your biggest influences?
Salvador Dali and Craola Simkins

How do you become a successful artist?
Continued practice and a dedication to putting your work in front of as many people as you can.

What makes you good and different from others?
My desire for colourful and varied art.

What does your art represent and does art mean to you?
My art is a representation of my hope.
